Couples Counselling

There are times in all relationships when challenges arise, some of these challenges are normal adjustments to significant life changes that occur throughout a lifespan, including things like deciding to get married, becoming parents, the “empty nest” syndrome or retirement.

Therapy could assist in these areas and often be around couples wishing to “tune in” on their relationship.

Other relationship difficulties arise during a crisis, such as infidelity, serious illness or loss.

Relationship issues can also often take the form of repeating patterns of interaction which is distressing to both partners and prevents emotional closeness and security in the relationship.  Many couples find that they become “stuck” and unable to work through things themselves.  Sometimes couples just need some outside help.

No matter what stage of life you are, counselling can help bring hope through talking through concerns and exploring solutions.  At Heart and Mind Counselling we are committed to providing a non-judgmental, safe and supportive environment to help you and your partner work through or overcome difficulties, such as:

  • Relationship conflict and/or communication difficulties

  • Marriage breakdown

  • Separation and divorce

  • Affairs and other forms of infidelity

  • General relationship dissatisfaction

  • Parenting disagreements

  • Sexual relationship problems

  • Alcohol and drug use problems

  • Living with serious physical or mental health problems

  • Infertility and the challenges of fertility treatment

  • Grief following a loss

  • Supporting children through relationship conflict and/or separation

Throughout the counselling process, we aim to help couples and individuals to gain insight, clarity and perspective.  Counselling can help look closely at the dynamics between you and your partner and explore how these patterns have come to be.  We can help establish what it is that you both want in your relationship and determine what brings positive repair.  We can help you to communicate openly and honestly in a way that feels safe and good for the both of you.

Counselling can help you to reconnect to the spark that brought you together and assist you to experience positive shifts and changes.  There also might be those times when the focus is about separating in a way that both parties (and children) feel supported and whole.
